Overview
Exam I will be given on Wednesday, 2 October. NOTE THAT IT WILL BE HELD IN SLC 370. This page will contain some information about my expectations for that exam - and will provide you with some direction about how to prepare for it. Please remember that the exam is worth 50 out of a PROJECTED total of 525 points.
General coverage
In this exam, I need to assess how well you are understanding the information given in this course to this point. The information will pertain to the general aims of the course, as well as key details about certain topics. The exam will likely consist of a mixure of multiple choice questions (at one point each) along with some short-answer questions and one or two essays. The essays may be of the nature "support or refute the following statement," where I give you a statement, and look for the way in which you agree or disagree with it.

About the session by Mrs. Moseman and Mrs. Rendina
Read over the notes that you took for the session offered by Mrs. Moseman and Mrs. Rendina. What strategies did they recommend for achieving academic success at Wilkes? What services does the Academic Support Center offer? What were their other primary recommendations?
About Dr Alves's sessions
As yo recall, Dr. Alves led two sessions. The first was on creativity. What were the primary points that he made? The second was on group decision making. Think about what we did in that session. What were the elements of group decision making and brainstorming that he provided (with my subsequent embellishment)?
About Wilkes1 and Unix
Review your notes for the session introducing you to Wilkes1. Reread the information describing the computing resources at Wilkes, and the Wilkes Computing Center's policies. Look over the summary of Unix commands. In particular, I want you to know cd .., cd ~, cd filename, ls, ls -l, rm, mkdir, passwd, more, pico, and pine. Also, know the sequence of steps needed to successfully log on and off wilkes1.
About Email
Review the information discussed in the 13 September session, relating to logging onto Wilkes1, changing your signature file, and accessing e-mail through use of Pine. What are actions that you can take with Pine, in terms of composing, reading, replying to, and forwarding e-mail? What are attachments, and how do you send them using the software available in SLC 216? Click here for information.
Look over the Email etiquette page, and the tips that you provided. I will construct a few true/false questions based on your tips.
About Spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel
On 23 September, we had an impromptu session on spreadsheets and Microsoft Excel. I posted the webpage for that session to the link for that date. It appears here, as well. I will ask some basic questions about spreadsheets and Excel, to the depth that I covered the material in class.
About Word processing and MS Word
We've spent a few sessions discussing word processing. Review the notes for the sessions on 25 September, 27 September, and 30 September (note that they overlap to a degree). Know what the various icon buttons mean on the menu-bars for Word. Know the different kinds of tabs, and how to set them. What is Word Art, and how does it differ from the "insert text" option?
