Advanced Word Processing III

Overview

Today's session will have two purposes:

1. To further introduce some of the advanced features of MS Word.

2. To give you additional time to complete your second MS Word assignment

Advanced Word Processing

Last session, we discussed some of the basic features of MS Word, and introduced an assignment designed to give you some practice with using those features.

As you will quickly appreciate, MS Word (like many other current word processing programs) have advanced greatly allowing you to incorporate elements to create complex, richly illustrated documents. Today, we will begin to discuss some of the advanced features. Next week, we will introduce a second assignment in which you will prepare a newsletter that contains the advanced elements.

Some of those more advanced operations include:

adding graphics

adding word art

adding headers with page numbers

using bullets

adding tables

dividing text into columns

using word-wrap

You should realize that these features only being to explore the range of options that are available. The key to becoming proficient with word processing programs like MS Word is to practice with them. Some people prefer to explore on their own, by seeing the effect of pressing buttons or selecting menu items. Other people prefer to read manuals, guides and on-line help to become familiar with the application's capabilities. Indeed, like playing a musical instrument, learning how to use a complex application like Word is not a yes/no type of matter, instead it is a matter of degree of proficiency.

The purpose of this course it to get you part of the way, and to point you in the way toward further study.

Assignment:

As noted, an assignment has been created to give you experience using some of the advanced features of MS Word. Directions for that assignment are provided in this link.
