| The
Hubbert
Curve was developed in 1956 by geophysicist
Marion King Hubbert. The curve follows a bell-shaped
probability function that is a symmetrical
exponential curve. An exponential curve
has three phases: lag, log, and plateau.
Exponential curves have widespread
applicability. For example, they can be
used to measure organismal growth rates, as well
as saturation of hemoglobin with respect to
oxygen. Unlike the exponential curve, the Hubbert curve has a parallel decreasing function that involves a logistic decline followed by an asymptotic fall to zero. |
