Computer Assignment 2
Using basic features associated with MS Word

Purpose:

This assignment has three objectives:

1. To give you experience with using some of the basic features of MS Word.

2. To give you experience obtaining text-based information from the web, and pasting it into a word processing application.

3. To give you experience sending a file as an attachment using Pine.


To Do:

A. Obtain and paste a previously prepared document into MS Word:

1. Open MS Word, and select a new file.

2. Return to your web browser and use it to access one of my published abstracts, by clicking this link.

3. Select one of my published abstracts.

4. Once it appears, use the cursor to highlight the entire abstract. Then select "copy" from the menu.

5. Re-open MS Word, and select "Paste" to transfer the contents from your clipboard to the file.

B. Alter the text:

1. rearrange the words using cut / copy / and paste feature.

2. add some words of your own.

3. change point sizes on some words.

4. change font (typefaces) on others.

5. change margins and tabs

6. add effects like underlining, italicizing, and strikethrough

7. add your name to the bottom

C. Save the amended document:

1. Select the "save as" command

2. Using the window that appears, select a destination folder or floppy drive for your file.

3. Give the altered file a name that you will remember.

D. Email the document to me as an attachment, following the directions given in class.

 


Grading:

Point value: 10 points. To receive all ten points, I must receive an e-mail message that contains your modified abstract as an attachment. The attachment must contain all of the changes requested above.

When due: 5:00 P.M.. Monday, 30 September 2002
