Purpose:
This assignment has two objectives:
1. To give you hands-on experience composing, replying to, and forwarding e-mail messages.
2. To give me some feedback concerning the session on group decision-making that we held last Friday.
To Do:
1. Sending E-mail
Partner up with an adjoining student and ask him/her for their E-mail login address (and not their password). Enter Pine, and use the menu items on the screen to compose and send them e-mail.
Note specifically that you will need to type "C" to compose the message. You will need to complete the header information including the login of the person to whom you will be sending the message, and the subject of the e-mail message. Don't worry about attachments or cc:'s yet.
This e-mail should contain a 1-2 sentence long message describing the most creative use of a paper clip that your group came up with.
Because your partner has an account on the same machine you are sending mail from, you only need to use the login name. The brilliant Wilkes1 computer doesn't need the "@wilkes.edu" information. Of course, the complete address would be needed whenever you send a message from an off-campus account.
2. Reading your E-mail
Wait until the e-mail message that your partner sends appears in your inbox. Use Pine to read this mail.
3. Replying to E-mail
Reply to the message you just read (R command). Address your receiver by his or her (correct!) name. Include a copy of their message and respond sensibly to what they have said. Once you have done this you may delete (or save) the original message.
4. Forwarding E-mail
When you receive a reply to your message, read it and then forward it to me at kklemow@wilkes.edu.
5. Leaving and returning to Pine
Leave pine, without deleting the second e-mail you received. Start pine up again, and look to see if the message you did not delete is still around (it better be!). If you want, you can read it again to see if it changed.
Feel free to delete it now.
Grading:
Point value: 10 points. To receive all ten points, I must receive an e-mail message from you that itself contains your original message and the response that you received. Remember, because you forwarded a mail message to me, the message must contain the first message you sent and his or her reply. Both your original message to your friend, and your forwarded message to me should end with your .signature file.
When due: 5:00 P.M.. Wednesday 18 September 2002
