Overview

Today's session will have three purposes:

1. To review the second Excel assignment.

2. To introduce students to the concept that usable data are available on the Web, and have students learn one technique for capturing web-based data, and incorporating it into a spreadsheet.

3. To provide a review of data analysis packages available on Excel (time permitting)

II. Data Mining

A. Availability of data on the web (see example)

B. One technique for capturing tabular data using cemetery data example

1. Save the dataset using your web browser

2. Open the dataset using Excel

3. Go through the parsing functions of Excel

4. Check for anomalous values

5. Reformat data to suit objectives

III. Data analysis with Excel (time permitting)

A. Histogram analysis

B. t-test

C. Regression analysis
