BIO / EES 105 - Energy in Our World
MISCELLANEOUS COURSE POLICY INFORMATION

Students will gain information by way of:

Presentations and handouts given by the course instructor
Presentations given by guest lecturers
Presentations by students
The Hinrichs and Kleinbach textbook

Students will be assessed by:
    •    Writing assignments and problem sets
    •    Group presentations (in which each student will present)
    •    Periodic exams

*Exams may involve a mix of multiple-choice, matching, short answer, compare-and-contrast, and statement-evaluation types of questions. To do well on the exams, students will need to recall information presented in the sessions, apply it to real and hypothetical situations, and critically evaluate the implications of that information.

Notes: The grading system is subject to change. The class will be kept informed of any changes that are implemented. Due dates for assignments and dates for exams will be announced in class. It is the student's responsibility to keep aware of all assignment / exam dates. Points will be deducted for assignments submitted late; details to be provided in class.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Attendance is expected at each session, and will be taken. In accordance with university policy, students missing more than two consecutive sessions will be readmitted only after receiving permission from both a Dean of Student Affairs. All work missed must be made up within the following week, or by arrangement with the instructor.

Students who miss an exam will not be given a make-up. Instead, if the excuse is legitimate as determined by the instructor, the grade for that exam will be the average of the two that remain. If the excuse is not legitimate, a grade of zero (0) will be assigned.

ACADEMIC HONESTY

Academic Honesty requires students to refrain from cheating and to provide clear citations for assertions of fact, as well as for the language, ideas, and interpretations found within the works of others. Failure to formally acknowledge the work of others, including Internet resources, written material, and any assistance with class assignments, constitutes Plagiarism. Cheating and plagiarism are serious academic offenses that cannot be tolerated in a community of scholars. Violations of academic honesty will be addressed at the programmatic and university levels and may result in a decision of course failure or program dismissal. (see University Student Handbook).

University Statement on Intellectual Responsibility and Plagiarism

At Wilkes the faculty and the entire University community share a deep commitment to academic honesty and integrity. The following are considered to be serious violations and will not be tolerated:

Plagiarism: the use of another’s ideas, programs, or words without proper acknowledgment
Collusion: improper collaboration with another in preparing assignments, computer programs, or in taking examinations.
Cheating: giving improper aid to another, or receiving such aid from another, or from some other source.
